A 41-year-old woman living in Narhe, Pune, has been cheated of Rs 32.30 lakh in an online fraud in which she was promised profits of up to 400 per cent in the share market. She lost the money after falling for an attractive advertisement she saw on social media. She has filed a complaint at Narhe police station, and the police have begun an investigation.
According to the information available, the complainant lives in the Gold Amber society in Narhe. She had seen a share trading advertisement on social media. After she clicked on it, a suspected woman calling herself "Meena Rajput" added her to a private social media group.
In the group, members were told that investing in the share market and IPOs could bring large returns in a short time. It is alleged that investors were lured with the promise of 400 per cent profit if they invested through a private app. This led the complainant to trust the people behind it.
Hoping for big profits, the woman invested a total of Rs 32.30 lakh in the app in instalments. Even after putting in such a large sum, she did not get the expected returns. When she realised she had been cheated, she went to the police at once.
A complaint has been registered with Narhe police. The police are trying to establish who the person who contacted her as "Meena Rajput" really is and who else was involved in the fraud.
Meanwhile, the public is being urged to be wary of social media advertisements that promise large and assured returns. People should check the credibility of any unfamiliar app before investing money in it.
