Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) MLA Jitendra Awhad has received a death threat from an unknown person. Awhad alleges that on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at around 4.30 pm, a man called him repeatedly and abused him in foul language.
According to Awhad, the same man also said he was standing outside his house and threatened to kill him. Awhad then shared details of the incident on social media and also filed a police complaint.
In a post on X, Awhad said the unknown man called two to three times, spoke in abusive language and threatened to kill him. The caller claimed to be standing near the door of Awhad's house. This has also raised the question of whether it was only a threat made over the phone or whether the man actually reached the house.
Another detail has emerged in the case. When Awhad's worker Hemant Wani spoke to the man on the phone, he too was allegedly threatened with death. It is being said that Awhad was first threatened with being shot, and then Wani as well. Wani has also filed a police complaint.
Thane city police have taken note of the threat. According to available information, the senior police inspector of Wartak Nagar police station has been directed to carry out the necessary inquiries and action. The investigation is expected to clarify the identity of the person who made the threat, the reason for the calls and how genuine the threat was.
Awhad has received threats before. In February 2024, an anonymous message said there was a bomb at his house in Thane. Police investigated at the time, but no bomb was found. In October 2024, his workers demanded that Awhad's security be increased.
It is not yet clear whether the threat was prompted by politics, a personal dispute or some other reason. As of the afternoon of October 19, no detention in the case had been confirmed. The threat to a sitting MLA has brought the safety of elected representatives back into discussion. All eyes are now on what the police investigation turns up.
