The renewal process for the 2026-27 academic year under the Education Ministry's Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan (PM-USP) scheme has begun on the National Scholarship Portal. Students who received the scholarship last year must fill in the renewal form to continue getting the financial assistance. The government has set October 31, 2026 as the last date for online applications under the scheme.
To keep the scholarship, students must meet certain conditions. The student must be continuing a full-time course, must have scored at least 50 per cent marks in the last annual or semester examination, and must have attendance of at least 75 per cent in college. There should be no break in studies without a valid reason, and the student should not be receiving a fee waiver or another scholarship under any other government scheme.
Before starting the online application, students should keep scanned copies of key documents ready to avoid errors while filling in the form. The most important are the original marksheet of the previous class or semester and the bonafide certificate issued by the college. The fee receipt for the current academic year, Aadhaar card, identity card and a copy of the bank passbook should also be kept ready.
Eligible students can fill in the renewal form on the National Scholarship Portal, scholarships.gov.in. They must first log in with their one-time registration credentials and password. After logging in, they should find the PM-USP CSSS Renewal link for the 2026-27 academic session, check their personal, academic and bank details carefully and update them. They should then upload all the required documents, submit the form finally and keep a printout of the receipt.
Submitting the online form alone will not release the scholarship money. After the form is submitted, the college or university will scrutinise the student's admission, marks and attendance. The last date for this verification at the institution level is November 15, 2026. Students should therefore meet the concerned department of their college after filling in the form and get it verified in time, so that the scholarship amount can be credited directly through DBT to their Aadhaar-linked bank account.
