Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet the Indian athletes who won medals at the Asian Games 2026 on October 15. The programme has been scheduled for 4.30 pm the same day at the Prime Minister's residence in New Delhi. It has been organised for a face-to-face meeting with the medal winners.

The Asian Games 2026 concluded recently in Japan, where Indian athletes put up a strong performance. India won 85 medals in all, including 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze, and finished fourth in the medal tally.

At the event, Mr Modi is expected to meet all the medal-winning athletes in person and interact with them. The Prime Minister may discuss with them their hard work, their sporting journeys and the historic success at the Asian Games. Mr Modi has consistently encouraged Indian sport and its athletes.

In the medal tally, China finished first with 341 medals, including 169 gold. Host Japan performed strongly at home and finished second with 269 medals, including 83 gold. South Korea maintained its consistent form and took third place. India came fourth behind these three.

Athletes from the Indian Army also made a major contribution to the success. Twenty-five athletes from the Army Sports Institute (ASI) in Pune represented the Indian team and won 12 medals across different sports. Indian Army athletes won 20 medals in all, of which 12 went to ASI athletes.
