The gram panchayat in Goregaon tahsil began planting on Thursday, October 29, on land once considered barren, under VB-G RAM G, with three years of upkeep work for villagers.
A new initiative for protecting the environment and developing the village has begun in Pindkepar village of Goregaon tahsil. From Thursday, October 29, the gram panchayat started planting saplings on village land that was considered barren and useless. An amraai, or mango orchard, will be developed here along with fruit saplings of different varieties.
The work is being carried out under VB-G RAM G, and about 2,000 saplings are being planted. After planting, they will be tended and protected for three years. This can give village labourers assured work for three years. The administration says the project will prove a priceless gift for coming generations and give Pindkepar a new identity as a model green village.
Keeping environmental protection and village development in mind, the gram panchayat decided to create an orchard by planting fruit saplings on the village's barren land. The scheme has been sanctioned under VB-G RAM G. Through the efforts of the gram panchayat administration and villagers, saplings are being planted on the barren land as well as on both sides of the road, to bring greenery to the village.
Work on digging pits in the ground by scientific methods has begun to prepare the orchard. On Thursday, Sarpanch Yogita Sahare, Deputy Sarpanch Bharat Ghasle, Gram Panchayat Officer Rina Sahare and members Nilkanth Bisen, Chandrakishor Patle, Sunil Sonwane, Mangla Patle, Rekha Rahangdale, Rupa Latye, Kala Chaudhari, Kanchana Sahare, Rajkumar Sakhre, Ravindra Sakhre, Prashant Sakhre and Rajesh Chulpar planted saplings with villagers to mark the start of this green drive.
It has been stated that once grown, the 2,000 trees will play a major role in keeping the area's temperature in check and improving the groundwater level. In addition, with the barren land turning into a fertile orchard, about 20 to 25 local people will get employment for roughly three years.
