Indian-origin Nithya Raman won the Los Angeles mayoral race, while President Donald Trump questioned the election system after Republican defeats.

US politics is in turmoil. After the midterm election losses, President Donald Trump appears to be facing one setback after another. Republican candidates lost in important cities such as Los Angeles and Washington DC, causing a stir in political circles.

In these elections, Indian-origin Nithya Raman won the race for mayor of Los Angeles. In Washington, Democratic Party candidate Janeese Lewis George was elected mayor. Angered by the results, Trump openly questioned the election system and said the results were deeply shameful.

According to Trump, Republican candidate Spencer Pratt had been expected to win easily in Los Angeles, but the results turned out to be the complete opposite. He called the entire election process dishonest. Speaking to the media, Trump said, "American elections have become so dishonest that ordinary people have no idea of it. If history repeats itself, this could become a major crisis for the country." He also referred to the political situation in New York and repeated what he has said about his relationship with Democratic leader Zohran Mamdani, described as his staunch opponent.

After the election results, there has also been a resignation within the administration. Harmeet Dhillon, head of the US Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division, who is considered very close to the Trump administration, resigned from her post. With resignations in the administration on one side and the party's defeats in big cities on the other, the Republican Party faces a major challenge.

After her win, Nithya Raman expressed her happiness in a video shared on social media. She said it was a great honour to get the chance to lead Los Angeles, counted among the world's most important and largest cities. She spoke to the city's current mayor, Karen Bass, and thanked her for her service to the city over several decades.

Raman said, "Los Angeles would not be what it is today without Mayor Bass's contribution. We have many challenges ahead and change will certainly take some time, but together we will make the future of this city even brighter." She ended by writing, "Thank you LA, let's get to work!" With this message she began her new journey.
