Nagpur doctor Shruti Sawalakhe crowned Mrs United Nations 2026 in New Delhi

Dr Shruti Neeraj Sawalakhe of Nagpur also took the Mrs United Nations Earth title, representing Oman, at the international contest in New Delhi.

Dr Shruti Neeraj Sawalakhe of Nagpur has been crowned the winner of the Mrs United Nations 2026 pageant, held at the Crowne Plaza hotel in New Delhi. She also took home the Mrs United Nations Earth title, which is described as the Oman title, so she left the stage with two crowns. Her family, her city and many across the country are celebrating.

Speaking to reporters afterwards, Dr Shruti said the event had first been planned for Sri Lanka and was shifted to the capital later. Strong entrants from several countries took part, and she named accomplished women from Russia, Kazakhstan and Japan among her toughest rivals. The programme had a national costume round, an interview, a talent round, a ramp walk, a second costume round and a question-and-answer session.

For the national costume round, she said, her outfit was meant to show Indian womanhood as a whole. It carried the Tricolour, the figure of the Indian woman and a tribute to the Air Force, Navy and Army that guard the country. Her presentation drew on a patriotic theme inspired by Operation Sindoor, and through it she wanted to convey courage, love for the nation and Indian identity. She said she hoped to place Indian culture in front of the audience and show a woman who is full of love, rooted in her values and devoted to her family, yet able to move ahead.

Dr Shruti is a dental surgeon and cosmetologist. She has completed two fellowships in cosmetology and holds an MBA in hospital management. She is a director at Jay Institute and Bhanukrupa Hospital in Nagpur, and she had done well earlier in the Mrs India pageant.

It was said that during the contest a foreign contestant seemed to be falling ill and Dr Shruti attended to her as a doctor. In her view, success is not only about prizes or a crown. It lies in using knowledge and experience to help others, and while a crown adds to one's standing, respect in people's hearts comes from humanity. She called representing India a moment of pride and a big responsibility, one she said she had discharged well.

She credits her family for the achievement. Her husband, Dr Neeraj Sawalakhe, is a well-known gastroenterologist, and their son, a chess player at national and international level, has been a constant source of inspiration. Her father is named as Dr Ravi Charde in one account and as Dr Ravi Sarde in another. She believes that family support, discipline and planning let women pursue their dreams alongside professional duties.

Her message to women is to give weight to their own aspirations along with family and career, and not to treat age, circumstances or household duties as the limit of what they can do. She said marriage is not an end but a garden where two souls bloom together. She urged women to cherish their dreams, to be the change they wish to see, and to arise, awake and not stop until the goal is reached. Outer beauty attracts, she added, but inner beauty wins hearts, and for her beauty means open thinking, a lovely heart and a pure soul.

Dr Shruti will now prepare for Mrs World and Mrs Universe. She also wants to use her medical expertise, leadership and experience to promote health awareness, confidence and personality development among women, and to support efforts for positive change linked to women's empowerment. For her, the crown is not just an honour but a responsibility to inspire other women and do something meaningful for society.
