Nagpur: Work halted at Kapsi over Metro construction, Bhandara Road sees long jam
Residents shut work near Kapsi to protest daily traffic jams caused by Metro construction on the Mouda-Nagpur road.
Mahametro construction work is underway on the road from Mouda to Nagpur, causing traffic jams there every day. People who travel this route face this problem daily.
In protest against this problem, a work-halt agitation was held on Tuesday at Umiya Gate in the Kapsi area. The agitation was led by former zilla parishad member Dinesh Dhole. Residents of nearby villages, public representatives, office-bearers and social workers took part in large numbers.
During the protest, people drew the administration's attention to the traffic situation on Bhandara Road. They said the Metro construction work was causing difficulties for residents, and that several flaws had come to light in the planning of the work. The protesters demanded proper planning to keep traffic moving smoothly during construction, and a quick resolution of people's everyday problems.
Those present at the agitation included Tehsil Congress Committee president Ananta Wagh, Krishi Upaj Bazar Samiti vice-chairman Kunal Itkelwar, and social workers Rupesh Shendre, Krishna Karbhajane and Prabhakar Hood, among other office-bearers. Also taking part were sarpanch Prakash Gajbhiye, Ganpat Wankhede, Pawan Sayam and deputy sarpanch Raju Charde, along with several other serving and former public representatives.
Also present in large numbers were citizens and activists including Ramesh Vidhe, Chandrakant Ghule, Chandu Hewat, Nikhil Gedekar, Chandu Patil, Manoj Dhoble, Gaju Gawande, Vinod Wasnik, Lalit Vairagade and Akash Barahate. The protesters said Metro work was necessary for development, but local residents and motorists should not be needlessly troubled during it.
Regarding the ongoing Metro work on the Mouda-Nagpur road, the protesters said clearly that if the administration and Mahametro did not fix the traffic problem and resolve people's everyday difficulties immediately, a stronger agitation would follow.
