Nagpur is fast becoming a modern, internationally rated city rather than just Maharashtra's second capital. The state government has drawn up a major plan to build a fully employment-focused "New Nagpur" on about 2,000 acres of land, keeping in mind the city's growing population, upcoming expansion and the needs of industry.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis laid special emphasis on this future plan during a visit to Nagpur for the inauguration of several development works. He said work on infrastructure was progressing sincerely to give the city an organised shape.

During the same visit, the 8.90 km long Indora-Dighori flyover (Dr Keshav Baliram Pant Hedgewar flyover), built at a cost of about Rs 998 crore, was digitally inaugurated. The flyover is meant to reshape the city's traffic system and better connect north, central and south Nagpur. The event was held in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.

Nagpur is today seen worldwide as a progressive, state-of-the-art city. An eco-friendly waste-to-energy project, relief from potholes thanks to strong cement concrete roads, and an outer ring road being built around the city are steps taken in this direction. A further new ring road is planned to keep pace with the city's expansion and keep Nagpur free of traffic and pollution. The most important step in this effort is the "New Nagpur" project on about 2,000 acres, which will be entirely employment-focused and open up new job opportunities for the youth.

Chief Minister Fadnavis said 35 flyovers have been built in Nagpur so far, with 15 more proposed. He also said a modern, eco-friendly waste-to-energy project is being prepared.

Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said that in the coming period, two major development projects will be undertaken in every assembly constituency of Nagpur city, and about Rs 1,000 crore will be made available for the city going forward. He also said the development plan for Deekshabhoomi has been approved.
