The revised cost of the Nagpur Sports Hub and other development works being built inside the Divisional Sports Complex in Nagpur's Mankapur area has now reached Rs 1,144.36 crore. This was disclosed at a project review meeting, where officials gave a detailed account of the current status of the work and the plan ahead.

The meeting was also told that construction of 11 new stadiums being built under the hub is on average 44 percent complete. Work on the sports cafeteria is progressing the fastest, at nearly 80 percent completion. Work on an Olympic-size swimming pool built to international standards is also continuing.

The reason for the cost increase was also explained at the meeting. Facilities such as the power system, CCTV, solar system and green building certification have been added to the project to equip the complex with international-level amenities, and this has driven up the cost.

The review meeting was chaired by Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule. It was a meeting of the Divisional Sports Complex executive committee and was held at the Divisional Commissioner's office. Officials briefed the meeting on the progress of construction work and on upcoming works.

One positive development to emerge from the meeting was that engineers had changed the building layout plans to save trees on the premises, which the Guardian Minister said he was satisfied with.

There are also plans to give the old indoor hall a new look. A proposal has been prepared for repairs, wooden flooring, air conditioning and fire-fighting arrangements, along with a 400-metre synthetic track and an upgrade to the pavilion building. The process of securing administrative approval for this work, estimated at Rs 91.88 crore, is currently underway.

Bawankule directed officials to install good-quality street lights on the premises and to increase the use of solar energy as much as possible. He also asked officials to ensure full safety during construction work.

The meeting also discussed granting post-facto approval to the Divisional Proficiency Centre and Sports Science Centre under the state government's Mission Lakshyavedh scheme. The issue of starting a state-level advanced training centre for badminton was also discussed.
