Nagpur: Son stabs father with screwdriver in row over household expenses, father dies
A dispute over sharing household expenses in Nagpur ended with a son fatally stabbing his father with a screwdriver.
A dispute over household expenses between a father and son in the Gangabai Ghat, Garoba Maidan area under Lakadganj police station limits in Nagpur escalated into a physical fight. The enraged son picked up a screwdriver and stabbed his father in the stomach. The father, who was critically injured, died three days later during treatment.
The deceased has been identified as Bablu Sahare, 56. Lakadganj police have arrested his son, Tushar Sahare, 23, in the case. The court has remanded Tushar to police custody until September 23. According to information received, Bablu Sahare worked at a sawmill and lived with his wife Mamta, 45, and son Tushar. Tushar was married and ran a sign-board making business from home. Bablu wanted his son, now grown up, to also contribute to household expenses.
Initial investigation found that the two frequently quarrelled, particularly over money for paying the electricity bill. On the night of September 16, around 10 pm, father and son argued again over the same issue. Bablu, who was drunk, throttled Tushar. During the scuffle, Tushar picked up a screwdriver lying nearby and stabbed Bablu in the stomach, leaving him critically injured.
Bleeding heavily, Bablu was taken to a hospital near their home for treatment. Seeing his condition was serious, doctors advised shifting him to another hospital for better treatment. He was admitted to Mayo Hospital the next day.
After treatment, the family brought Bablu home, but his condition suddenly worsened on September 19. He was rushed to a private hospital near Shatabdi Chowk, where he died during treatment at 6 pm. On a complaint by Mamta Sahare, Lakadganj police registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against Tushar and arrested him.
