Nagpur: Seven booked for allegedly cheating youth of Rs 12 lakh with promise of government job
Shantinagar police have booked seven people for allegedly taking Rs 12 lakh from a youth and giving him a fake appointment letter.
A case of alleged fraud of Rs 12 lakh in the name of a government job has come to light in Nagpur. The accused allegedly claimed to know people in the municipal corporation, the Metro and other government offices, and assured a youth of a job. Shantinagar police have registered a case against seven accused and begun an investigation.
The case falls under the Shantinagar police station area. The complainant, Nikhil Masarke, had got to know Pratik Yuvraj Urade during Ganeshotsav in 2025.
It is alleged that Pratik told Nikhil that his friends were well connected in the municipal corporation, the Metro and other government offices. He said he could get Nikhil a government job through these contacts.
The accused allegedly took a total of Rs 12 lakh from Nikhil at different times, promising him a job. It is alleged that after taking the money, they also gave him an appointment letter. The letter made Nikhil believe that he had got the job. The letter was allegedly fake and was given to keep his trust after the money had been taken.
When Nikhil took the appointment letter to the Metro, a check there found that it was fake, and the fraud came to light. Nikhil then asked the accused to return his money, but they allegedly kept putting him off.
On Nikhil's complaint, Shantinagar police have registered a case against Vishal Jadhav, Swapnil Sahare, Roshan Wankhede, Digambar Shinde, Sachin Rathod, Arvind Chaudhari and Pratik Yuvraj Urade.
Police are now investigating the money transactions, the allegedly fake appointment letter and the claims of contacts in government offices. They are also trying to find out how many more people were involved in the alleged fraud, and whether other youths were similarly lured with promises of jobs.
