Well-known actor Nana Patekar is no more. He died of a severe heart attack at the age of 75. His sudden death has left a void in the world of cinema that can never be filled. He was known not only for his powerful acting but also as an artist who took his responsibility towards society seriously.
Through his acting, Patekar made audiences laugh heartily at times and brought them to tears at others. Many of his dialogues are still remembered word for word by his fans. Strong acting, a deep voice and a distinct way of delivering lines were his hallmark, and it was these dialogues that made him so popular. But he was known not just for his acting but also for his simple lifestyle.
Staying away from the glitz of Bollywood, Patekar had an utterly simple personality. On the big screen he played one powerful character after another, but in real life he preferred simple, traditional clothes. At public events, during interviews or while travelling, he was often seen in a white cotton kurta and pyjama or a dhoti. At airports and in casual meetings too, he preferred loose, comfortable clothes.
A white gamchha was always on his shoulder. Patekar was mostly seen in a blue kurta, white pyjama and a white upper cloth, these traditional clothes. He always chose plain colours over flashy or designer wear.
Patekar spent most of his time at his farmhouse in Khadakwasla, near Pune. There he did the farming himself, planted trees and handled many other such tasks. While working in the field, he wore plain clothes like any ordinary man or farmer. His evenings were spent with books.
Thus Patekar, who looked imposing and commanding on screen, was a very unassuming person in real life. His fans will mourn his passing for a long time.
