A professor at a well-known college in Nagpur has been accused of sending obscene and objectionable messages to a student, causing considerable commotion there. After the matter came to light, the student's angry father went straight to the college and slapped the professor. The incident created tension on the campus.
According to the information available, the incident took place at a college in Nagpur's Wathoda area. A young woman from Central Nagpur had studied at the same college about a year ago. It is said that her family recently checked her mobile phone and found some objectionable messages written in obscene language.
After seeing the messages, the young woman's father was enraged. He went straight to the college and demanded answers from the professor concerned. The two had a heated argument, and during it the father reportedly slapped the professor on the cheek in anger. Panic then spread through the college.
Meanwhile, the Bajrang Dal and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) have demanded a fair investigation. Activists of both organisations staged a protest on the college premises, saying the allegations against the professor were serious. The protest took place at night, and police were present.
Representatives of both organisations submitted a memorandum to the college director. It demanded a fair inquiry and strict action under the rules if the professor is found guilty.
It is said that after the protest, the university administration has decided to send the professor on leave until the inquiry is complete. All eyes are now on what the inquiry finds.
According to the available information, no formal written complaint has so far been registered at Wathoda police station. Police have said they have not received an official complaint from the student's family. Police said that if the family files a complaint, the matter will be investigated and legal action taken as per the rules.
An official inquiry is needed into what kind of messages the professor sent the student and the circumstances behind them. The allegations have not been separately confirmed at present.
