Former Vice-President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar arrived in Nagpur on Sunday. He has come to attend the annual Vijayadashami event of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), scheduled for October 20. The visit comes at a significant time for the Sangh, as the organisation completes 100 years of its founding this year.

After landing at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Dhankhar went to Raj Bhavan, where he is staying during the visit. Apart from his scheduled participation in the RSS event, details of his other engagements in the city have not been made known so far.

The annual Vijayadashami event holds special importance for the Sangh. Nagpur is its headquarters, and its biggest events have traditionally been held here. With the Sangh completing 100 years this year, the event is expected to draw even more attention.

The RSS was founded in Nagpur in 1925. Every year on Vijayadashami, a large gathering of swayamsevaks is held here and the Sangh chief addresses it. On the occasion, the organisation presents its thinking, its work and its priorities to its members and the public.

The October 20 event is part of the centenary year programmes, which has added to its importance. The celebrations are expected to touch on the Sangh's journey over the past hundred years, the spread of its organisation and its role in public life.

As the birthplace and headquarters of the Sangh, Nagpur remains the centre of these annual events. The Vijayadashami programme is counted among the organisation's biggest events and draws the attention of political circles, prominent people and those who follow national affairs.

Dhankhar's arrival ahead of the ceremony has added to the interest in this year's preparations. However, further details of his programme or other meetings during his stay in Nagpur were not available at the time of writing.
