A 22-year-old man was killed in an attack with a sharp weapon at Katejawalga village in Nilanga taluka of Latur district. The incident took place at around 8 pm on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Sohel Gulab Pathan. The incident has caused a stir across the area.

A complaint has been registered against Mehboob Ghafar Mulla in the case. Police have begun a further investigation.

According to information from the police, Sohel lived in Katejawalga with his mother Saira and father Gulab Pathan. Work was under way on their house, so they were staying for some time at the home of a neighbour. On Saturday, Sohel had returned home after finishing work in the fields. At night he was sitting near the house under repair, looking at his mobile phone.

At around 8 pm, a woman from the neighbourhood called Sohel's mother out and told her that he had been attacked. The mother rushed to the spot and found Sohel lying unconscious, covered in blood. He had deep wounds on the left side of his chest from the blows of a sharp weapon.

Family members immediately took him in a private vehicle to the government hospital in Nilanga. After examination, doctors declared him dead. Sohel's family has been plunged into grief.

In the complaint, Sohel's mother has stated that about two months ago there was a dispute between Sohel and Mehboob Mulla. The dispute arose over a suspicion that Sohel talked to Mehboob's wife. Villagers and relatives had then intervened and settled the matter. According to the complaint, Mehboob had apologised and said he would no longer quarrel on the basis of suspicion.

It is now suspected that the murder was a result of this old dispute. Police are investigating the entire matter further.
