Boy, 16, stabbed to death in Nagpur mutton market brawl, three juveniles held
A 16-year-old boy was stabbed to death near a mutton market in Nagpur's Jaripatka area over an old dispute; three juveniles are in custody.
An old rivalry turned into a deadly clash near a mutton market close to Ginger Mall in the Jaripatka police station area of Nagpur on Thursday night. A 16-year-old boy was stabbed to death with a sharp weapon in the fight. The accused fled the spot right after the attack. Police have taken three juvenile accused into custody in the case, while a search is on for the remaining accomplices.
According to police, an argument broke out between some boys at the mutton market between around 9 and 10 pm on Thursday and quickly turned into a fight. During this, the accused attacked the 16-year-old boy, a resident of Lumbini Nagar, with a sharp weapon. He collapsed on the spot, severely injured.
As soon as they were informed, Jaripatka police reached the spot and rushed the boy, in critical condition, to Mayo Hospital for treatment. However, his injuries were too severe and he died during treatment.
News of the boy's killing spread quickly, creating tension in the area. Police stepped up deployment at the spot and began searching for the accused. On Friday, police took three juvenile suspects into custody, while the search for the remaining accomplices continues.
Initial investigation has found that the killing is linked to a nearly two-month-old rivalry. It is being said that the boy had a dispute two months ago with some boys living in the Panchpaoli area. According to police, the accused allegedly called him and summoned him near Ginger Mall on the pretext of resolving that old dispute. From there, the matter moved to the mutton market premises, the dispute escalated, and the accused attacked him with a sharp weapon.
Police are now questioning the juveniles in custody to establish the role played by the other accused involved in the incident.
Further details in the case are expected soon from Zone 6 DCP Ramesh Dhumal of Nagpur City Police.
