A stone-pelting incident has been reported on the Duronto Express travelling from Nagpur to Mumbai. According to Central Railway, an unidentified person threw stones at train number 12290 after it passed Borkhedi station on the night of September 25. The window glasses of the A-1, B-2 and B-5 coaches were shattered in the incident. Railway security agencies went on alert after the incident and a case was registered against the unidentified person.

According to information received, the incident took place around 8:27 pm on September 25, after the Duronto Express, travelling from Nagpur towards Mumbai, crossed Borkhedi station. Stones or some object were thrown from outside at the windows of the train's AC coaches, and the impact shattered the window glasses.

Some passengers were having their meal at the time. The sudden sound of glass breaking caused panic among passengers for some time. It was initially reported that a passenger had suffered a minor injury in the incident. However, according to official information from Central Railway, no passenger was injured and there was no other damage in the incident.

According to railway information, the window glasses of the A-1, B-2 and B-5 coaches of the Duronto Express were broken due to the stone pelting. Railway security agencies began an investigation as soon as they received information about the incident. Part of the incident is also reported to have been captured on camera. Based on the footage and other evidence obtained, a search is on for the person who threw the stones.

After receiving information about the incident, teams of the RPF and the GRP conducted a search operation covering an area of about 7 kilometres in the Borkhedi-Sindhi section. Checks were also carried out around Borkhedi and Brahmani villages, and local residents were questioned. However, the railways said no suspect or concrete evidence was found during the investigation.

Escort staff present on the train and passengers also said they heard the sound of an object or stone striking the window from outside.

In this matter, a case was registered against the unidentified person under Section 153 of the Railway Act at 2:55 am on September 26. The case number is 325/2026, and railway security agencies are currently investigating the matter.

The exact spot where the stone pelting took place, the identity of the person who threw the stones, and the actual reason behind the incident are still being investigated. Meanwhile, the stone-pelting incident on the Duronto Express has once again brought the issue of railway passenger safety into discussion.
