Nagpur man attacks mother with knife over money for alcohol

A shocking incident came to light in Kumbharpura in Nagpur's Jagannath area on Monday (the 21st). According to police, a son attacked his own mother with a knife and attempted to kill her after she refused to give him money to buy alcohol. The incident took place at a Shivbhojan Thali centre, where the mother works.

The accused son has been identified as Sachin Suresh Takalikar, 42. Tehsil police registered a case of attempted murder against him and arrested him. The court has sent him to police custody. Police said Sachin already has a total of 7 cases registered against him, including murder, assault and attacking with a dangerous weapon. He has served around 16 years in jail and had come out of jail only some time ago. Police said he is addicted to alcohol.

A woman named Leelabai supports her family by working at the Shivbhojan Thali centre in Kumbharpura.

According to police, Leelabai was at work as usual on Monday when her son Sachin arrived there. He asked his mother for money to buy alcohol, but Leelabai refused to give it to him. Sachin then began abusing her. During this, he threatened to kill her, picked up a vegetable-cutting knife kept at the centre and stabbed her in the stomach. Customers and other staff were present at the centre at the time, creating a brief atmosphere of fear.

As Sachin was trying to attack his mother again, a co-worker of Leelabai's, Lalita Hemant Nimje, showed courage and intervened, snatching the knife from his hand. This is what saved Leelabai's life. Sachin then fled the scene. Police were informed of the incident, following which they registered a case and arrested the accused, Sachin.
