The "Super Sunday" falling just before Dussehra added to the festive buzz in Nagpur's markets. Taking advantage of the Sunday holiday, people came out of their homes to shop. Customers kept streaming through the city's major markets, showrooms and shops through the day. Buying was brisk in several sectors, including electronics, vehicles, bullion and construction.

Traders looked satisfied at the crowds that swelled in the markets ahead of the festival. With Dussehra close, festive preparations have picked up pace. Besides buying new household goods, vehicles and gold and silver jewellery, people also showed a tendency to invest in property. The Sunday holiday gave salaried people and families plenty of time to shop.

Shrikant Bhandarkar, director of Shrikant Electronics, said footfall in the electronics market was good during the festive season. Making use of the holiday, people gave priority to shopping. Customers showed interest in televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, smartphones and other home appliances. The crowds grew because of attractive discounts, easy finance and offers on various products.

The bullion market, too, had a festive glow. Kishore Seth, director of 8 Batukbhai Sons, said the rise in gold prices has not had much effect on buyers. Purchases of gold and silver have risen 20 per cent compared with last year. He said buying jewellery carries special significance at festival time. Bullion showrooms also saw good footfall before Dussehra. People browsed gold and silver jewellery in both traditional and modern designs before buying.

Vehicle showrooms were also very crowded on Sunday. Akshat Nangia, director of Nangia Motors, said Dussehra is considered auspicious for buying a vehicle, which is why showrooms saw large numbers of customers on Sunday. Customers came to the showrooms to get details of two-wheelers and four-wheelers, see new models and book vehicles. Interest grew because of the attractive discounts, finance facilities and other benefits offered by vehicle companies and dealers.
