Engineering student killed, another injured as truck hits e-scooter on Godhani Road in Nagpur

A second-year B.Tech student died and her friend was seriously hurt when a truck rammed their e-scooter on Nagpur's Godhani Road; the driver was detained.

An engineering student was killed and another seriously injured on Godhani Road in Nagpur district on Tuesday evening when a truck hit the e-scooter they were riding home from college. The injured student is undergoing treatment.

College ended at about 5.30 pm, according to information available. The two are reported to be second-year B.Tech students at Jhulelal Institute of Technology in Bokhara. They left for home on an e-scooter registered as MH 49-CA 6573. Rajlaxmi Lokhande (19) was riding it, and Muskan Devachand Khiyaldasani (19) was the pillion rider.

While they were travelling from Godhani towards Jhanda Chowk, near the naka, the driver of a truck registered as MH 40-BG 3114 hit their vehicle from behind. After the impact, Rajlaxmi fell to the left. Muskan fell to the right and came under the truck's rear wheel. She died on the spot. She was reported to be a resident of Jaripatka.

According to the police, the accused truck driver, Damodar Sitaram Sahare (61), a resident of Kapilnagar, fled the spot after the accident. Passers-by rushed to help, but Muskan had already died. Manakapur police reached the spot on receiving information, and the injured Rajlaxmi was sent to hospital for treatment.

Some residents chased the fleeing driver for a considerable distance and caught him on the way. Some people also assaulted him. Manakapur police then took him into custody. There was tension in the area for a while.

After the panchnama, Muskan's body was sent for post-mortem. Her family members are in deep shock.

Local residents said heavy vehicles carrying sand ply on this road throughout the day. According to them, truck drivers drive very carelessly and at high speed, so there is always a risk of fatal accidents here.
