Unit-6 of the Nagpur city crime branch has arrested an accused who had been absconding for five years in a murder case. The accused, Prashant alias Sonu Choudhary, lives in Khaparkheda. Police took him into custody at the WCL colony in Chanakpur. After the arrest, he was handed over to Khaparkheda police for further action.

According to police, the case dates to 2021. A dispute broke out in Ward No. 2 of Khaparkheda, near Mohan Kirana shop, over the removal of a Chinese food cart. The cart of Prashant Ghodeswar, brother of the complainant, was parked in front of Gawande Complex, near the MSEB office.

It is alleged that in the dispute over moving the cart, seven accused, including Prashant alias Sonu Choudhary, attacked Prashant Ghodeswar with a sharp weapon and killed him by slitting his throat.

A case was registered at Khaparkheda police station under sections relating to murder. Police had already arrested six accused, but the seventh, Prashant Choudhary, had been absconding since then.

Officers and staff of crime branch Unit-6 traced the absconding accused using technical investigation and confidential information. A raid was then carried out at the WCL colony in Chanakpur, where he was taken into custody.

Police said information about other cases against the accused has also emerged. In 2015, truck driver Ranjitsingh Kushwaha was murdered and his truck looted within the limits of Deoli police station in Wardha district. The accused's name had come up in that case as well. Police said he spent about 22 months in jail in that case. It was also learnt that a non-bailable warrant was issued against him for failing to appear on court dates.

Police also said he is involved in a robbery case registered in 2019 within the limits of Khaparkheda police station. A non-bailable warrant has been issued against him in that case too for not appearing in court.

After the arrest, the accused underwent a medical examination. He was then handed over to Khaparkheda police for further legal action. Police are now investigating his exact role in the murder and the details relating to the other cases.
