Nagpur: Prashant alias Sonu Chaudhary, an accused in a murder case who had evaded the police for five years and tried to avoid arrest, has finally been caught.

The case dates to 2021 in Ward No. 2 of Khaparkheda, where a dispute arose over removing a Chinese food cart parked near Mohan Kirana shop. Prashant Ghodeswar's cart stood in front of Gawande Complex. The dispute over removing the cart soon turned into a bloody fight.

It is alleged that seven accused, including Prashant alias Sonu Chaudhary, together attacked Prashant Ghodeswar and killed him by slitting his throat with a sharp weapon. A murder case was registered at Khaparkheda police station after the incident. Police arrested six of the accused at the time, but Chaudhary managed to escape.

The search for Chaudhary continued. Crime Branch Unit-6 eventually traced his location on the basis of technical investigation and confidential information. A police team then raided the WCL colony at Chanakapur and arrested him. After his arrest, he was handed over to Khaparkheda police for further action.

Chaudhary's name had surfaced in another serious crime as well. According to the police, he is also involved in a 2015 case in the limits of Deoli police station in Wardha district, in which truck driver Ranjeetsingh Kushwaha was allegedly abducted and killed and the iron in the truck looted. He spent about 22 months in jail in that case. A non-bailable warrant was later issued against him for failing to appear on court dates.

The accused's name had also come up in a robbery case registered in 2019 within the limits of Khaparkheda police station. Following his arrest in the murder case, police are taking further legal action in the related cases.
