In Nagpur, a cancelled auto-rickshaw ride booked through the Rapido app turned into a harassment complaint. A 36 year old woman alleged that the auto-rickshaw driver sent her obscene and objectionable messages through the app after she cancelled the ride.

Following the woman's complaint, Pratap Nagar police have registered a case against the driver. The accused driver has been identified as Sahil Chaudhary. Police have begun examining the alleged exchange of messages.

According to police, the woman booked an auto through the Rapido app on September 19. The driver arrived in auto-rickshaw number MH-49-CF-0377, but the woman said he reached a location different from the pickup point she had given.

A phone conversation between the woman and the driver over the pickup location allegedly turned into an argument, after which the woman cancelled the ride.

According to the complaint, the driver's behaviour allegedly changed after the ride was cancelled. The woman alleged that he then used the app's in-app messaging feature to send her objectionable and obscene messages.

The woman alleged that these messages contained abusive language and comments that were objectionable and intended to hurt her dignity. Distressed by the alleged messages, the woman went to Pratap Nagar police station and filed a complaint.

Based on the complaint, police have registered a case under Sections 79 and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with other applicable sections mentioned in the FIR.

The investigating officer is examining the conversation between the woman and the driver, the messages allegedly sent through the Rapido platform, and other available digital evidence. Police will also look into the circumstances around the ride cancellation and the subsequent exchange of messages before deciding on further action.

Police have made clear that a ride cancellation or a disagreement over the pickup location does not justify abusive language or objectionable behaviour. Further action will be taken based on the investigation.
