A quarrel over an accidental push on a busy Chandrapur road ended in a man's death on Tuesday night. Police arrested a 29-year-old accused using CCTV footage.
A quarrel over an accidental push on a Chandrapur road claimed a man's life. The incident took place at around 8.30 pm on Tuesday, October 27, in front of the District Hospital. Police said City Police arrested the 29-year-old accused within a short time with the help of CCTV footage.
According to police, the two men had an argument after one was jostled while walking, and it escalated into a scuffle. The accused allegedly picked up a paver block lying by the roadside and struck the other man on the head. The injured man died in hospital.
The incident occurred on a very busy road near the Chhoti Bazaar Chowk signal, in front of Shriman Savaji Bhojanalaya. The cement paver block was reportedly used to strike the head 6 to 7 times. The attack on the crowded road caused alarm in the area, and a large crowd gathered at the spot.
Police identified the deceased as Ranjeet Suresh Rajwanshi, 36, a resident of Ballarshah. Police said, however, that his identity is not yet fully confirmed, and doubt remains over whether Ranjeet Rajwanshi is his real name. It has emerged that he was originally from Chhattisgarh. Police are investigating where he lived in Ballarpur.
The arrested accused has been identified as Aman Deepak Kurve, 29, of Panchsheel Chowk, Jatpura ward, Chandrapur. He is reportedly already on record at Chandrapur City Police Station. Police Inspector Gavhane said cases of assault have been registered against him up to 2021.
According to police, Ranjeet was walking along the road at about 8.30 pm on October 27 when he bumped into Aman Kurve. Kurve asked why he had pushed him and started an argument. As the quarrel grew, Ranjeet tore Aman's shirt. This enraged Aman, and the two came to blows. Police said that, with his anger out of control, Aman picked up a paver block lying by the roadside and hit Ranjeet hard on the head. Ranjeet fell, and Aman continued to attack him with the paver block.
People passing along the main road reportedly saw it all, but no one tried to stop Aman. On receiving information, Police Inspector Shyam Gavhane reached the spot with his team. Ranjeet was taken to the District General Hospital for treatment but died shortly afterwards of a serious head injury and heavy blood loss.
As police gathered more information about the deceased, they learned that he lived in Ballarpur. In the morning he had suffered a seizure-like fit near the Ballarpur Municipal Council office and collapsed. People took him to the Ballarpur Rural Hospital, from where doctors referred him to the Chandrapur District General Hospital for further treatment.
After the attack, the accused Aman had fled. Police identified him from CCTV footage and arrested him within a short time. No one had imagined that a quarrel over a push while walking would end in blows to the head with a paver block and a man's death on a crowded road. Passers-by on the main road watched the horrifying scene, yet no attempt was made to save Ranjeet. The question is being raised whether humanity has been lost.
