A scene of panic broke out in the Munje Chowk area of Nagpur on Sunday afternoon after four to five armed men suddenly arrived at the spot. Those present said the men were carrying pistols and swords and were seen brandishing them. It is being said their target was Razzak Shaikh, brother of gangster Bhuru alias Akram Shaikh, but Razzak left the spot in time, averting a bigger incident.

Razzak's 14 year old son was murdered last Thursday night in the area under Jaripatka police station. Razzak and those close to him have reportedly been angry since the murder of his son. Following this altercation with relatives and the incident of brandishing weapons, police fear a gang war could break out in the city and have gone on alert.

A quarrel had taken place near Lohapul on Saturday. According to information received, Razzak had a heated argument near Lohapul on Saturday with Bhuru's brother-in-law and other relatives. Razzak is said to have been angry with the relatives over a fatal attack on his brother Bhuru and nephew, and this led to a heated exchange from both sides.

Razzak runs a travel business in the Munje Chowk area. On Sunday, some men arrived at the same spot where he was. They are alleged to have been carrying pistols and swords. Panic spread among the people standing there as soon as they saw the weapons. As Razzak and his associates began to leave, the accused reportedly chased them for some distance.

As soon as news of the incident reached them, traffic police personnel informed the control room, following which a Sitabuldi police team reached the spot immediately. Police detained some suspects and began questioning them. Further action in the case continued late into the night.

The atmosphere in the Jaripatka area has remained tense since the murder of the son. It is alleged that after the murder, Razzak had also pelted stones at and vandalised some shops. It also emerged that there had been a plan to attack the accused in the murder case during their court appearance.

Given these repeated incidents, police now face the challenge of preventing any further major violent incident in the city. After the Munje Chowk incident, police have increased surveillance in sensitive areas.
