Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge's controversial remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi have heated up the political climate in the country. Leaders are responding to the remarks in different ways. Leaders of the Mahayuti have strongly condemned Kharge's words.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah replied sharply. "Today the Congress president has crossed all limits of political culture," he said. Senior BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar has now also reacted to the issue.
According to Mungantiwar, Kharge should not have used such words. He said such words come out of the mouth because of being deprived of power. But he asked whether this was a sign of propriety in politics. He said nobody should speak to anybody like this, and that one should not say something just because the other person has said it. He was speaking in Nagpur.
The felling of trees in the Karjat-Bhimashankar area also came up. It is alleged that more than 3 lakh trees there are being cut in the name of development. There is anger among people as thousands of large trees have already been felled. The Mahayuti government is also accused of favouring a proposed hydroelectric energy storage project of Gujarat's Torrent Power company.
Mungantiwar, a former forest minister, gave his view on the matter. He said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has the official information. He said the general position of the forest department is that trees should not be cut when it is not necessary. The Centre's environment department takes the same position, he said. The term "site specific" is used in this context. He said that if the project is being built at another site, the forest should be saved, and a way out should certainly be found through discussion. He also noted that the Chief Minister has clearly said that trees will not be felled.
Talk of another change in the state cabinet has begun, and this time it concerns the finance portfolio. After the death of Ajitdada, the finance portfolio held by the NCP went to the BJP. A year has now passed, and the NCP's demand for the finance portfolio is gaining strength. Senior NCP leaders led by Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar held a meeting at Chief Minister Fadnavis's 'Varsha' residence.
Afterwards, senior party leader Chhagan Bhujbal said that they have asked the Chief Minister for the finance portfolio that belongs to the NCP's share. The Chief Minister is positive about giving the portfolio, but has not named a date for it. Speaking on this, Mungantiwar said an NCP delegation can meet the Chief Minister, but the Chief Minister will take the right decision on their demand.
