Chandrapur-based lawyer Adv. Yogeshwar Pachare has filed a complaint against Congress state president Harshvardhan Sapkal in Chandrapur. Pachare alleges that an objectionable AI-generated photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was posted on the official Facebook page of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee on September 10.

According to Pachare, the photo showed the Prime Minister holding a begging bowl, with derogatory text below it. Pachare said this was a deliberate attempt to misuse AI in the name of political criticism and to tarnish the image of the country's highest constitutional post and the office of the Prime Minister.

Pachare said he had filed an official complaint with the home department on the Maharashtra government's 'Aaple Sarkar' grievance portal on September 12, with token number COM/HOMD/2026/2331. Following instructions from home department secretaries, the complaint has been forwarded to Chandrapur cyber police for further investigation.

Treating the matter as serious, Ballarpur MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar has written a separate letter to Chandrapur Superintendent of Police Ayush Nopani on September 27. In the letter, Mungantiwar said there should be an impartial investigation into the text used in the Facebook post and the related evidence.

Mungantiwar also demanded that digital evidence be examined to determine who created the post, who circulated it further, and who else was responsible. He has sought strict legal action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) provisions related to defamation and disturbing public peace, as well as under the IT Act.

The derogatory photo of the Prime Minister has sparked sharp anger in political circles. Chandrapur police and the cyber cell are closely examining the technical aspects and digital sources in the case.
