Police in Mul town of Chandrapur district have registered a case against five people, including the president of a mandal and DJ owners, for playing DJ music at high volume during a Durga immersion procession. Police seized five vehicles and DJ equipment, together valued at Rs 85 lakh 21 thousand.

According to police, the procession was held in Mul town on October 21, 2026. Police officers and staff were conducting special patrolling and checks during the procession to maintain law and order and prevent violations of noise pollution rules. In the Gandhi Chowk area, the DJ vehicles in the immersion procession of the Darar Durga Mandal were checked.

The police team measured the sound with a sound level meter. Police say the check found the sound systems of these DJ vehicles above the permitted limit. Police had clearly and lawfully asked the DJ drivers and the mandal's office-bearers to reduce the volume immediately. Police allege that the volume was not reduced despite this, and that the loud sound was continued in deliberate disregard of the police order. Police then took legal action.

Police have named the five people booked as follows: Darar Durga Mandal president Santosh Prabhakar Thakurwar (51, resident of Mul); DJ owner and driver Aniket Ravi Nanaware (22); Abhishek Chandrashekhar Chittalojwar (22, resident of Mul); Dheeraj Jugalkishore Ghichare (51, resident of Manewada, Nagpur), owner and driver of DJ Dhumal; and DJ owner and driver Lucky Anil Durge (19, resident of Borchandli, Mul tehsil). All of them are accused in the case.

The case has been registered at Mul police station under crime number 732/2026. Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 has been invoked, along with Sections 38 and 136 of the Maharashtra Police Act 1951. The charges are causing noise pollution above the permitted limit and violating a lawful police order.

In the action, police seized a total of five vehicles along with DJ equipment from the accused. The seized goods are valued at Rs 85 lakh 21 thousand. The office of the Superintendent of Police and the local police took the action to enforce Supreme Court orders and noise pollution rules. Police are continuing to crack down on those causing noise pollution during the Ganesh and Durga festivals, and the action has caused alarm among those who play DJs in violation of the rules.
