MP gives 7,400 school toppers scooters, up to Rs 1.20 lakh each
Madhya Pradesh handed out scooters and cash to over 7,400 top-scoring class 12 government school students under the Mukhyamantri Scooty Yojana.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday distributed scooters and cash assistance to more than 7,400 top-scoring class 12 students from government schools under the Mukhyamantri Scooty Yojana. The state-level event was held at Government Subhash Excellence Higher Secondary School in Bhopal.
At the event, the chief minister handed over scooter keys symbolically to a few selected students. The assistance for the remaining eligible students was deposited directly into their bank accounts. Students who choose an electric scooter can get up to Rs 1.20 lakh, while those opting for a petrol scooter get assistance of up to Rs 90,000.
The amount is not limited to the cost of the vehicle alone. It also covers registration, insurance, two helmets and some essential accessories, which could ease commuting and daily travel for students going on to further studies.
Eligibility rules for the scheme were changed in 2026. Under the new rules, a student must have passed class 12 exams with at least 70 percent marks in the first attempt. The student must also have ranked first in their government school. Students from all three streams -- arts, commerce and science -- are eligible for the scheme.
During the event, Mohan Yadav also spoke with students and asked about their future plans. A student named Khushi Rai said she is pursuing a B.Com degree and preparing to become a chartered accountant. Other students said they wanted to become doctors, lawyers, engineers and businessmen.
The chief minister said the scheme is not just about giving students vehicles but about honouring good academic performance. He said the aim is to encourage government school students to perform well and to make things easier for them as they pursue further education.
Yadav also said Madhya Pradesh's school education budget for this year is around Rs 38,000 crore. He said the school education and tribal welfare department had distributed laptops to around 1.45 lakh students on September 1.
