Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about amla, or Indian gooseberry, in his radio programme Mann Ki Baat and described its benefits. He said amla is found in almost every home in the country. Pickle, juice and murabba are made from it, and chyawanprash, which gives the body strength, is also prepared from it. According to Modi, people have always eaten many such things.

The Prime Minister also said that our forefathers have passed down the benefits of amla from generation to generation. He gave this point special emphasis in his speech.

Modi also drew attention to Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh, where traditional amla farming and the processing of the fruit are now creating new opportunities for employment for farmers and women. He described amla as "tasty as well as healthy". Amla is back in discussion for its link with immunity, disease prevention and balanced eating.

Amla is an old and nutritious fruit of Indian cuisine. It is said to be high in vitamin C and immunity-boosting properties, which is why many people eat it. Despite its health benefits, it is also important to consider how much amla should be eaten.

The explanation given for amla's nutritional value is that it is a natural fruit with a large amount of vitamin C. It also contains various plant compounds and dietary fibre. Vitamin C supports the body's immunity. It also helps the body absorb plant-based iron. Taken as part of a balanced diet, amla's fibre and antioxidants are, on the whole, useful for health.

The question, then, is how much amla to eat daily. According to experts, there is no need to eat amla in excess. Dr Sujit Paul said 30 to 50 grams a day, or one to two fresh amlas, is enough for an average adult. According to him, unless a specialist has advised otherwise because of a particular dietary need, most people do not need to eat about 100 grams of amla a day.
