Security guard killed, another worker hurt as hangar gate collapses at Nagpur's MIHAN MRO facility
A 42-year-old security guard died and a second employee was seriously injured when a roughly 40-metre aircraft hangar gate fell at the Indamer MRO facility in MIHAN, Nagpur, on Saturday.
A security guard was killed and another employee seriously injured on Saturday afternoon when the gate of an aircraft maintenance hangar collapsed at the Indamer company's MRO facility in the MIHAN area of Nagpur. The gate is about 40 metres long.
The dead man has been identified as Kailash Chafekar, 42. According to the information available, an aircraft had been taken out of the hangar and the gate was being closed. Chafekar tried to pull the gate by hand. The gate, which runs on an automatic system, is said to have suddenly fallen. Two employees, including Chafekar, were trapped beneath it.
Both injured men were rushed to AIIMS Nagpur. Doctors declared Chafekar dead after examining him. The condition of the second employee is said to be serious, and he is undergoing treatment.
Chafekar is said to have been appointed as a security guard at the company only last month. His family has questioned why he was made to close the hangar gate when he had no experience of technical work.
The family has demanded that responsibility for the accident be fixed and that the safety arrangements be investigated. The company has not yet made any official response.
Sonegaon police are investigating. They are examining what technical fault caused the gate to collapse, whether safety rules were followed, and what kind of work employees were being asked to do. The actual cause and responsibility are expected to become clear once the investigation is complete.
