A meeting chaired by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule discussed creating and filling 158 naib tehsildar posts, with the final decision left to the Cabinet.
Chandrapur: Vacancies in the post of naib tehsildar in the state are delaying the delivery of government scheme benefits to eligible beneficiaries. A meeting on the issue was held at Mantralaya in Mumbai on November 3, 2026, chaired by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule.
MLA Kishor Jorgewar told the meeting that 158 posts are vacant in the state. It was stated that the final decision on creating and filling these posts will be taken at a Cabinet meeting.
Food and Drug Administration Minister Narhari Zirwal and MLA Kishor Jorgewar were present. Officials of the revenue, finance and social justice departments also attended. Jorgewar has been pursuing the issue consistently.
Under the Special Assistance Programme, the state runs the Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Anudan Yojana and the Shravan Bal Seva State Pension Yojana. The Centre's Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme, Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme and National Family Benefit Scheme are also part of the programme. The schemes are meant to support needy and economically weak people. The Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar and Shravan Bal schemes provide financial security to destitute men and women. With these posts lying vacant in the administrative set-up, implementation of the schemes had been seriously disrupted.
Against this background, Jorgewar stressed at the meeting that creating 158 new naib tehsildar posts, for the newly formed talukas and for vacancies in the other talukas of the state, and filling them quickly, is essential to implement the special assistance schemes.
Bawankule clearly directed officials and departments that not even the slightest delay in giving eligible beneficiaries the benefits of government schemes would be tolerated. He said that to take every government scheme to the last citizen, all concerned departments, including revenue, must work in coordination.
Bawankule also gave a strict instruction to the social justice and finance departments to dispose of all proposals and cases related to the matter immediately. The creation of and recruitment to the 158 naib tehsildar posts will soon be discussed finally at a Cabinet meeting, and a decision taken. The revenue minister's initiative has eased the way to major relief for thousands of destitute, elderly and women beneficiaries in the state.
