Talk of Kishor Jorgewar's candidature is under way in the BJP in Chandrapur. State Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule publicly praised MLA Jorgewar at Mahesh Bhavan in Chandrapur on Wednesday. This is likely to give the discussion another turn.

A graduates' interaction meet had been organised there to campaign for Sudhakar Kohale, the BJP-Mahayuti candidate for the Nagpur Division Graduates' Constituency. Bawankule was speaking at the meet. He described Jorgewar as an MLA who gets work cleared by securing the Chief Minister's signature even at midnight. "He is capable, which is why he is an MLA," he said in praising Jorgewar's work.

The most politically significant part of the speech, it is believed, was Bawankule's direct reference to the 2029 election. While appealing to graduate voters to work for Kohale's victory, he linked this election to Jorgewar's coming Assembly election. The remark is therefore not limited to praise, and is being viewed seriously in terms of future political equations.

The Chandrapur Assembly constituency may be redrawn. BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar has said many times before that if the constituency becomes open after the redrawing, he is ready to contest from there. He is also seen to have begun political preparations in the Chandrapur constituency. On the other hand, sitting MLA Kishor Jorgewar has also stated his position that he will contest again from Chandrapur. As a result, there was talk in political circles about who the BJP would field in the next Assembly election, and talk had also begun about whether there would be a possible conflict within the BJP.

Against this background, a senior party leader linked a reference to the next Assembly election with Jorgewar's name from a campaign platform. This is believed to have strengthened Jorgewar's political position. Bawankule's statement is being seen as an important political signal in the discussion on the next leadership and candidature in the Chandrapur BJP. All eyes are now on how it plays out in the BJP's local politics and how it is reconciled with Mungantiwar's stand.

Jorgewar has considerable electoral experience. His win as an independent with the highest margin of votes in the country is considered an important milestone in his political journey. He later won on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket as well, further strengthening his position in the constituency. During this period he grew close to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He is also said to have played an important role in the BJP's success in local body elections fought under Fadnavis's leadership. His electoral experience, contact with voters, hold over the party organisation and ties with the senior leadership are considered Jorgewar's strengths.
