Nagpur: Action under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) has been taken against the criminals involved in the firing on Congress corporator Shubham Motghare. Motghare, corporator of Ward 26, was fired upon on August 26 at Shravan Nagar in Bhandewadi. The gang of the notorious criminal Vishal alias Fallya had hatched a plot to kill him and carried out the attack in an organised manner. As a result, the gang members are now less likely to get bail.

The firing took place at around 1 am on the night of August 26. Until a few seconds before the incident, Motghare had been standing in the gallery of his house, but he went inside just before the shots were fired. Motghare had a narrow escape.

In connection with the firing, the Crime Branch has so far arrested seven accused: Ankush Janak Tomaskar (30), Rishabh alias Rishi Vishal Nagdeve (24), Amit Madhukar Thakre (22), Kartik Babloo Tomaskar (26), Rishabh Bhagwati Pethel (30), Ketan Durgaprasad Mate (24) and Romit alias Fullya Muneshwar Wahane (21). All of them are currently lodged in Nagpur jail.

The gang's main kingpin, Vishal alias Fallya Gupta, along with Ashok alias Bawaji Yadav, Saheli Pandhram alias Sonu (25) and Aniket alias Annu Sanjay Bihare, has not yet been caught by the police.

The police investigation found that Vishal, the kingpin of the Fallya gang, had himself hatched the plot to kill Motghare and had given Ankush Tomaskar a contract to carry out the shooting. On Sunday, the police then issued orders for action under MCOCA against the organised criminal gang. The action has further reduced the chances of the gang members getting bail.

Ashok Yadav is known for running a gambling den near Itwari railway station.
