The Marathi film 'Dharau' is much talked about on social media these days. Carrying the line "Dharau... she is not a cow... she is a mother!", the film has been running to full houses in Pune, Buldhana, Latur and Parbhani, as well as in Vidarbha and Marathwada.
The film has won the Best Feature Film award at the Chambal International Film Festival. It had earlier won a total of 26 national and international awards. Notably, it was also given the Best Debut Feature Film award at the Peshawar International Film Festival in Pakistan.
'Dharau' is the first film of director Manish Shinde. It has no big star; all the actors are new faces from villages. Through hard work, determination and dreams, Shinde released the film. Several other Marathi films are also showing in theatres alongside it, yet its different story won it many screens. The success belongs not only to the director but to the whole team.
Speaking about the award, director Manish Suresh Shinde says, "'Dharau' is the first Marathi film based on the cow. Before this, I had made more than 25 music albums and TV ads. There was pressure on my mind while making my first film as a director, but there was determination. I also had devotion towards the cow. So everything fell into place."
He adds that the film was running to full houses in theatres when it won the Best Feature Film award at the Chambal International Film Festival, which has doubled his joy. According to him, audiences everywhere are showing love and appreciation for his work.
Shinde has appealed to everyone to watch 'Dharau' in a theatre at least once and tell him their response.
