A man in Mangaluru has fitted puncture repair equipment on his bike and travels the city serving stranded motorists, charging Rs 200 a puncture.

When a vehicle's tyre is punctured, the owner has to find a repair shop, and if the shop is far away, the vehicle may have to be pushed there. A man in Mangaluru has found a different way around the problem. He has turned his own bike into a puncture repair centre and travels around the city serving customers. The business, which can be started with a single bike, is drawing attention these days.

CEO Akash Gupta shared a video of the unusual work on social media. He came across the man offering puncture repair on a bike on the streets of Mangaluru, stopped to talk to him and asked about the business.

Asked how many punctures he fixes a day, the man said about 20. He charges Rs 200 for a puncture. At that rate, 20 punctures a day would bring in Rs 4,000. How much profit is left after petrol, materials and other expenses depends on how much work he gets.

The best part of the business is that it needs neither a big shop nor a separate premises. According to the man, setting up the bike for puncture repair cost about Rs 60,000. The bike was his own, so he also saved the cost of buying a separate vehicle.

The puncture repair machine and other equipment are fitted at the rear of the bike. The repair is therefore done wherever the customer's vehicle has broken down, and the customer does not have to go to a shop.

He said he works from 6 am to 11 pm. Such long hours make it possible to help people stranded on the road at different times of the day. Whether it is a two-wheeler, a car or another vehicle, quick help with a punctured tyre matters, and a mobile puncture service that reaches the customer can be useful. Publicity in the right places, booking by phone and service on time could improve the chances of finding customers.

In the caption of the video, Akash Gupta also offered help to people keen to start this business. He wrote that people in cities such as Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Jaipur and Mumbai who want to start this work can get in touch. His offer also includes providing the bike for the business without any investment. The terms and eligibility of the offer should be confirmed separately with the person concerned.

The business rests on low capital and on providing service according to the customer's need. Reaching the customer directly, instead of opening a big shop, is a method that could work in other cities too. Before starting, it is important to work out the cost of tools, the safety of the vehicle, local rules, service charges and likely profit.
