A youth allegedly returned to attack a jeweller in Chandrapur's main bullion market after being reprimanded over harassing a woman employee; the accused was caught on CCTV.

An attempt was made to attack the owner of a jewellery shop with a sharp weapon in Chandrapur's main bullion market, causing alarm in the city. The incident took place on Wednesday, October 21, at about 6:40 pm.

According to the complaint, a youth is accused of harassing a young woman who works at the shop. The owner had reprimanded him. The youth then returned and tried to attack the owner. The owner was saved by the glass in the shop. The accused was caught on CCTV installed at a nearby shop.

Information received says Nutan Swarna Kala Kendra (Aas Jewellers) is located opposite the Chandrapur city police station. The young woman who works there had caught the eye of a youth employed at a clothing shop in the area. It is alleged that on Wednesday the youth tried to harass her. Alarmed, the woman told the jeweller's owner.

Seeing her distress, the owner called the youth and reprimanded him sternly. It is said that, angered by the reprimand, the youth returned a short while later intending to take revenge. At about 6:40 pm he tried to strike the owner with a sharp weapon. However, the shop glass stopped the blow and the trader escaped the life-threatening attack.

The sudden incident caused panic in the vicinity. Hearing people's shouts, the accused fled the spot.

The main bullion market is directly opposite the police station. An attempted attack with a sharp weapon in such a crowded area has raised a serious question about the safety of traders. The trader who helped the young woman was the one targeted. Traders in the market are fearful and angry.

The accused was caught on a CCTV camera at a nearby shop as he fled. The city police are said to have formed separate teams to search for him. It remains to be seen how quickly the police arrest the accused on the basis of the CCTV footage, and what steps they take to ensure the safety of traders in the main bullion market.
