Tight police security was in place across Chandrapur city for the Ganesh immersion procession, with patrolling underway to prevent any untoward incident or law and order problem. The local crime branch team kept up its own patrol during this deployment, and this vigilance made a major action possible in the Golbazar area.
On September 25, 2026, while security and patrolling for the immersion procession were underway within the limits of Chandrapur City police station, the crime branch team received a tip-off from an informer. According to the information, a young man was moving suspiciously in the Golbazar area while carrying an illegal and dangerous sharp weapon. On receiving the tip, the team rushed to Golbazar without delay and detained the suspect in the presence of panch witnesses.
He was searched in the presence of the panch witnesses, and two weapons were recovered from him, an iron knife and an iron 'fighter' (knuckleduster). Police seized the iron knife, valued at about Rs 200, and the iron fighter, valued at about Rs 200, together worth Rs 400. The arrested youth has been identified as Aryan Kishor Pachare, 19, a resident of Jalnagar Ward, Chandrapur.
A case has been registered against Pachare at Chandrapur City police station under Sections 4 and 25(1-B)(b) of the Indian Arms Act for carrying a dangerous weapon in a public place without a licence. He underwent a medical examination after his arrest. He has been handed over to Chandrapur City police station for further investigation and legal action.
It is being said that this timely action by the crime branch amid the crowded and sensitive atmosphere of Ganeshotsav averted the possibility of an untoward incident during the procession. Citizens have praised the police for their alertness and prompt action.
