Maharashtra's Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Department has decided to hold 1,000 job fairs simultaneously across the state on September 29. The fairs have been named "Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Rojgar Mahakumbh Maharashtra". Skill Development Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha has appealed to the state's youth to turn up in large numbers so they can get job opportunities matching their education, skills and preferences.

The appeal came as part of the Information and Public Relations Department's "Lokasamvad-2026" campaign, under which officials are reaching out to people directly with information on various government schemes at Ganesh mandals, where large crowds gather during Ganeshotsav. As part of this, officials visited different Ganesh mandals in Mumbai city and Mumbai suburban district, interacted directly with people, and gave them information about the job fairs and available job opportunities.

At an event held at the Meenal Krida Mandal in Malabar Hill, the mandal's president Prashant Jadhav, vice-president Ningesh Kore, Rajiv Mehta, Sagar Pendharkar, Ayesha Qureshi and other office-bearers, members and devotees were present. Skill Development Officer Vidya Shinge, coordinator Ajay Kamble, and Information and Public Relations Department liaison officers Sandhya Garware, Shraddha Meshram and Ashwini Pujari spoke with people present and gave full details of the job fair to be held in Mumbai city district.

The job fairs are being organised to provide the state's youth with employment opportunities based on their educational qualifications, skills and interests. Held in every taluka, the fairs will give local youth direct information about jobs available with various companies and industries.

Information was also shared about schemes of the Social Justice and Special Assistance Department, which are run for the social, educational and economic development of Scheduled Castes, Neo-Buddhists, the elderly, persons with disabilities, transgender persons and other vulnerable groups. Children are helped with their education through the Matriculation, Savitribai Phule and Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj scholarships, while the Swadhar and government hostel schemes provide accommodation and necessary facilities. The Ramai Awas Yojana provides financial assistance for building homes, while the Mukhyamantri Vayoshri and Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar schemes support the elderly and the destitute.

Information was also given about several schemes of the Women and Child Development Department aimed at the safety, nutrition, education and empowerment of women and children, including the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, One Stop Centre, Shakti Sadan, Adarsh Anganwadi, baby care kits, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana and the Poshan Abhiyan. Anganwadi services provide supplementary nutrition, health checkups, immunisation, pre-primary education and nutrition-related advice. For women's safety, the Maharashtra State Commission for Women provides counselling and legal guidance, and also acts on complaints relating to children's rights. Savings groups, skill development and self-employment are promoted to strengthen women economically. The event also highlighted the Women Helpline 155209 and Child Helpline 1098.
