Monsoon rain has picked up pace again in Maharashtra. Heavy rain lashed several areas including Thane, Kalyan and Dombivli on Monday, while parts of Mumbai recorded light rain. The sudden downpour flooded low-lying areas of Thane, causing considerable trouble for residents.

Rain intensified in Kalyan and Dombivli after around 3 pm on Monday afternoon. Heavy rain continued for about an hour to ninety minutes, followed by intermittent light drizzle until late night. The weather in these areas has been changeable over the past few days, with clouds, sunshine and light rain alternating. The sudden rain, coming during Ganeshotsav, affected people's daily lives. Water also collected in several low-lying areas of Thane city.

According to the weather department's forecast, a yellow alert for rain has been issued for 25 districts of Maharashtra for Tuesday, September 22. Some areas may see rain accompanied by thunder and lightning during this period, along with strong winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour.

The districts under the alert are Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Nashik, Ahilyanagar, Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, Dharashiv, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha and Yavatmal.

According to weather expert Panjabrao Dakh, rain may continue until September 24 in Dharashiv, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur, Solapur, Parbhani, Beed, Jalna, Ahilyanagar and Pune. He said another spell of rain could hit some areas in early October as well.

Nagpur recorded a temperature of around 28 degrees on September 22, with the maximum expected to be around 34 degrees and the minimum around 27 degrees. Mumbai's temperature was around 27 degrees, with a maximum of around 32 degrees and a minimum of around 26 degrees expected. Nagpur city's AQI was recorded at 60 and Mumbai's at 82, both falling in the moderate category.
