Heavy rain brings relief from humidity in Pimpri-Chinchwad
Chinchwad recorded 50 mm of rain by evening, the season's highest so far, as Pimpri-Chinchwad got its first big downpour while Pune city saw only light drizzle
Rain has finally brought big relief to the people of Pimpri-Chinchwad, who had been troubled by severe humidity and sweat for several days. On Monday afternoon, the city saw thunder, strong winds and heavy rain that thoroughly soaked the entire area. By 5:30 pm, 50 mm of rain had been recorded in the Chinchwad area, the highest figure so far this season.
Clouds had been gathering over the city for the past few days, but rain kept holding off. On Monday afternoon, however, the weather changed dramatically. Around 4 pm, dark, dense clouds covered the sky, creating a darkness like night in the middle of the day. Within minutes, heavy rain began along with lightning.
This season's first major spell of rain thoroughly soaked most of the suburbs, including Pimpri, Chinchwad, Akurdi, Nigdi, Bhosari and Dapodi. The sudden rain briefly inconvenienced people returning home from office and those driving vehicles. However, the sustained rain brought down the temperature and a pleasant coolness in the air, giving people a sense of relief.
While the Pimpri-Chinchwad and Maval areas saw a strong spell of rain, Pune city had to make do with only light drizzle. Rain evaded most parts of Pune.
According to the Meteorological Department, as of 5:30 pm, the highest rainfall was recorded in Chinchwad at 50.0 mm. This was followed by Talegaon at 33.5 mm and Dhamdhamre at 31.0 mm. In addition, Shirur recorded 26.5 mm, Kurvande 18.5 mm, Purandar 5.0 mm, Haveli 4.5 mm and Daund 4.0 mm. Hadapsar, Lavasa, Malin, NDA, Girivan, Pashan and Shivajinagar areas received light showers.
