Weather conditions are changing rapidly in Maharashtra. A low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal, raising the possibility of heavy rain in some states of the country. In this connection, a rain alert has been issued for Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, the Kolhapur ghat area, the Satara ghat area, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Latur, among other districts of the state.

Several parts of the state have received less rainfall than expected so far. Dharashiv, Latur and Solapur districts in particular have seen very little rain, causing distress among farmers. In these conditions, the Meteorological Department's rain warning has brought some relief to farmers as well as the general public.

In addition, rain is expected in central Maharashtra and Marathwada between September 23 and 26. During this period, some areas may see thunder and lightning along with rain. Wind speeds here could also reach 40 to 50 kilometres per hour, and up to 60 kilometres per hour in some areas.

A yellow alert has been issued for Jalgaon and Kolhapur. Sindhudurg, Jalgaon, Kolhapur, the Kolhapur ghat area, the Satara ghat area, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, Dharashiv, Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Gondia, Wardha and Washim districts have also been placed under a yellow alert. Wind speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour are expected at all these locations.

According to the forecast, rain is likely in Konkan and Goa between September 22 and 27. Rain with thunder and lightning had earlier been forecast for some areas of Konkan, Goa and central Maharashtra between September 21 and 24, and for Marathwada between September 21 and 23.
