A serious accident occurred around 12.30 pm on September 19 near the Samadhan bike servicing centre, close to Murmura Bhatti on Ramtek-Tumsar State Highway 753. A 61-year-old woman died in the accident, while her 17-year-old granddaughter was seriously injured. The girl riding the bike turned out to be a minor, raising questions about parental responsibility in the area.

According to information received, 17-year-old Arya Parmeshwar Harode, a resident of Borda (Ganeshi) village in Parshivani taluka, had come to Shri Ram Multispecialist Hospital in Ramtek for treatment along with her roughly 61-year-old grandmother, Rayabai Motilal Nanure.

After treatment at the hospital, the two were returning to Borda on the bike. On the way, at a bend near the Samadhan bike servicing centre close to Murmura Bhatti on the Ramtek-Tumsar highway, an unidentified Eicher truck loaded with husk, headed from Tumsar towards Mansar, hit their bike.

Arya, who was riding the bike, suffered serious injuries in the collision, while her grandmother Rayabai Nanure, who was riding pillion, fell onto the road and suffered a severe head injury with heavy bleeding.

People in the area who witnessed the accident immediately had both of them admitted to the sub-district hospital in Ramtek. Doctors declared Rayabai Nanure dead after examination. The injured Arya is still undergoing treatment at the hospital.

It is learnt that the unidentified truck loaded with husk fled the scene after the collision. Ramtek police have registered a case in the matter and have begun further investigation along with a search for the truck.

The accident has once again brought up the issue of minors being allowed to ride bikes. In cities and villages alike, minors are often seen riding bikes openly, sometimes with their parents' permission and sometimes without their knowledge. A lack of driving experience and knowledge of traffic rules can make such mistakes fatal.

Parents should prioritise their children's safety and avoid handing bikes to minors, while children should understand that they are responsible not only for their own lives but also for those of others on the road. A moment's carelessness can change an entire family's life, so people are urged to follow rules, not give vehicles to minors, and prioritise safe travel.
