Nominations are moving quickly for the election to the Amravati division teachers' constituency of the Legislative Council. On the fourth day of filing, Saturday, four candidates each submitted one nomination form, taking the number of candidates who have filed so far to six. On Saturday, seven people also collected a total of 15 nomination forms.

The candidates who filed on Saturday are Ashok Waman Hiwale (Independent), Dilip Bhimrao Kadu (Independent), Gazi Mohammad Zahiroosh (Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi) and Ashish Manohar Ambulkar (Independent).

Sunday is a government holiday, so the sale and filing of nomination forms will remain closed that day. According to the Election Commission of India's schedule, the last date for filing nominations is October 6. The nomination forms will be scrutinised on October 7, and nominations can be withdrawn until October 9.

Polling in the Amravati constituency will be held on October 23 from 8 am to 4 pm. Counting will take place on October 27, and the entire election process will be completed by October 31.

According to the election schedule announced by the Election Commission of India on September 22, the biennial elections to other graduates' and teachers' constituencies are also being held along with the Amravati division teachers' constituency.

Special casual leave has been provided for teacher-voters in the divisional teachers' constituency election so that eligible voters can cast their votes. The leave is granted under Section 135-B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

The leave will not apply to teacher-voters working in private institutions. The private institutions concerned have been directed to give such voters a two-hour special concession so that they can vote.

Divisional Commissioner and Returning Officer Nayana Gunde has appealed to teacher-voters to be sure to exercise their franchise.
