Garage fire in Nagpur's Bank Colony destroys 20 two-wheelers; sacked employee suspected
About 20 two-wheelers were gutted in a garage fire in Kapil Nagar police limits, and police are searching for a suspect on CCTV footage.
A major fire broke out at a garage in Bank Colony, under Kapil Nagar police station limits in Nagpur, at around 3 am on Friday. About 20 two-wheelers parked in the garage were burnt to ashes. The loss to the garage and the vehicles together is estimated at about Rs 5 lakh.
The fire also damaged a neighbouring clinic. The flames were so intense that the nearby clinic of Dr Vikas Giri was damaged as well, with a loss of about Rs 2 lakh.
According to the information available, Satish Yadav runs a garage called Divesh Honda Service in Bank Colony. Raju Mahendrakar worked there as an employee. He is said to have been dismissed from the job about two months ago because of an alcohol addiction.
The allegation is that Raju, upset over losing his job, reached the garage early on Friday and allegedly set it on fire. The flames quickly engulfed the two-wheelers parked inside. This is, for now, only an allegation.
Police and a fire brigade team reached the spot on receiving information and brought the fire under control. During the investigation, police obtained CCTV footage in which a person can be seen moving suspiciously around the garage.
Kapil Nagar police are now searching for the suspect on the basis of the CCTV footage and other leads. The search is on and the investigation is continuing. Whether the dismissal was the reason for the fire or there was another cause will be confirmed only after the police investigation is complete.
