Food and Drug Administration (FDA) commissioner Tukaram Mundhe has been in the news over the past few days because of action being taken across the state. The FDA has been cracking down on alleged adulteration in milk, paneer and other food items, and is also inspecting eateries and food establishments, bringing the issue of food safety back into focus.

Amid this, speculation began that Mundhe was due for another transfer out of the FDA. Against this backdrop, in an interview to a news channel, he was asked which department he would want after his transfer from the FDA.

Responding to the question, Mundhe made his position on transfers clear. He said it was not in his hands where his next transfer would be, and that he would work in whatever department the government assigned him to. He also said he gives more importance to his present responsibility than to the future, and that his effort is to do good work and fulfil his duty in his current post.

Mundhe said he does not think much about which post he may get or where he may be transferred in the future. He said that instead of worrying about the future, everyone should focus on discharging the responsibility given to them in the present properly. He also took a strict stance on shirking of duties in the administration, saying that if any employee or official is negligent in their work, there is no need to compromise or show unwarranted sympathy toward them.

During the interview, the issue of adulteration in milk and dairy products also came up. Mundhe said the FDA is carrying out inspections and action at various levels to stop adulteration in milk, and that the administration has taken a strict stance against those who compromise on the quality of food items, which is why the FDA's actions are drawing attention these days.

Tukaram Mundhe has been transferred several times before in his administrative career, which is why speculation about his possible transfer resurfaced amid the ongoing FDA action. But Mundhe said the decision on transfers lies with the government, and that he is currently focused on his present responsibility. It is this statement, that he will work in whichever department the government gives him, that is drawing attention amid the ongoing speculation about his transfer.
