The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has taken strict action against hotels, restaurants, bakeries and dairies in Nagpur that flouted food safety rules and sold food in unclean conditions. Yet many establishments appear to be open as before, and residents have begun asking whether the action is truly strict or merely for show.
The ground reality of the action emerged from information sought by Right to Information (RTI) activist Sandeep Badana. According to the information provided by the FDA, action was taken between June 8 and August 14 against 15 well-known food establishments in the city for violating the Food Licensing and Registration Regulations, 2011.
According to the department, 8 of the 15 establishments completed the required provisions and paperwork, so their suspensions were withdrawn. Serious negligence and deficiencies were found in the remaining 7, and their licences or registrations have been cancelled outright.
The seven establishments whose licences were cancelled are listed as follows. Salim Mutton Shop (Mahadula) carries the date August 6, 2026. Yarana Family Garden Restaurant (Hazari Pahad) carries July 29, 2026. Indian Tandoor (Katol Road) carries August 12, 2026.
Mohadikar Savji Wada (Tarodi), Swapnil Baghu Kamble (Koradi Temple) and Mother Dairy Milk Franchise (Central Avenue) are all given the date August 14, 2026. The seventh is Kiara Noodles and Trading (near Kanji House), which carries August 18, 2026.
Now to the 8 establishments whose suspensions were lifted. Six of them are named in the list with dates. M/s Heera Sweets Pvt Ltd (Panchpaoli) is dated July 29, 2026. The Hut Family Restaurant and Dhaba (Kalmeshwar Road) is dated July 13, 2026. Indore Namkeen Products (Wanjra Industrial Area) is dated August 24, 2026.
The same list gives August 10, 2026 for Shri Sainath Trading Company (Itwari), July 24, 2026 for Ashoka Restaurant (Mount Road, Sadar) and August 7, 2026 for Machan Restaurant (Somalwada).
In all, action was taken against 15 establishments, 7 had their licences or registrations cancelled and 8 got relief from suspension. It is because some of the establishments whose licences were cancelled are still open as before that the question is being raised among the people of Nagpur.
