Nagpur: A man walking on the road with his sister was seriously injured when an e-rickshaw driver attacked him with a blade. The driver had been staring at the man's sister, and attacked him after he objected.

The incident took place on the night of October 19 at Hivri Nagar Chowk, under the Nandanvan police station limits. The injured man is Rakesh, 46. The accused, Vinod Janardan Dongre, 48, a resident of Adivasi Prakash Nagar, Kalamna, drives an e-rickshaw.

On the night of October 19, Rakesh was walking from Hivri Nagar Chowk with his sister. E-rickshaw driver Vinod Dongre, who was passing by, noticed Rakesh's sister and began staring at her. Rakesh objected and asked him to look the other way. Angered by this, Dongre got down from the e-rickshaw and began abusing Rakesh. He then assaulted him. When Rakesh asked why he was being beaten, Dongre took out a blade kept in his e-rickshaw and struck Rakesh on the neck.

The sudden attack caused panic at Hivri Nagar Chowk. People informed the police, and Nandanvan police reached the spot and took Dongre into custody. The injured Rakesh was taken to the medical hospital for treatment.

Nandanvan police have registered a case against the accused and started an investigation. The attack in a public place has raised concern over a minor dispute turning violent and over the safety of citizens.
