DJ owner, Ganesh mandal office-bearers booked for banned sound system in Chandrapur
Police in Chandrapur district booked a DJ owner and Ganesh mandal office-bearers for using a banned high-pressure sound system during an immersion procession.
A crowd noise dispute has led to a police case in Sindewahi taluka of Chandrapur district after a banned high-decibel sound system was used during a Ganesh idol immersion procession.
The procession, organised by the Navyuvak Bal Ganesh Mandal, was taken out at Mouja Pawanpar in Sindewahi taluka. During the procession, a DJ fitted with high-pressure speakers, a type completely banned by the government, was openly played.
Police noticed that noise pollution control rules laid down by the Supreme Court and the state government, as well as orders issued by the police administration, were being openly violated during the procession. On noticing this, a team from Sindewahi police station rushed to the spot. Police completed a seizure panchnama in the presence of two witnesses. Following this, police registered a case against the DJ owner and members of the Ganesh mandal's executive committee at Sindewahi police station.
The accused have been booked under Section 223 and Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with Sections 38(1), 136 and 70 of the Maharashtra Police Act. The case has been registered as Crime No. 570/2026. During the action, police seized the sound system, high-pressure speakers and other electronic DJ equipment, along with the vehicles used to transport the equipment. The total value of the seized material is Rs 15.35 lakh.
The crackdown on those flouting noise pollution rules during the festive season has caused a stir among DJ operators and Ganesh mandal workers in the area. The action was carried out under the guidance of the Superintendent of Police, Chandrapur, the Additional Superintendent of Police, Chandrapur, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Brahmapuri, and Police Inspector Kanchan Pandey of Sindewahi police station.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Shrikant Lanjewar played a key role in the operation, along with police personnel Sanjay Jugnake, Narayan Yegewar, Shubham Urade, Kamlesh Pender, Sunil Bahekar and Nandkishor Tumram. Further investigation into the case is underway.
